The significant updates and principal modifications relevant to EFILE services include:
- Transition for “Authorize a Representative” Service (Effective July 15, 2025): For individual clients, the direct “Authorize a Representative” service within EFILE software is no longer available. Tax representatives must now use the “Represent a Client” portal to request online access to an individual’s account. This new method aims to provide instant access, eliminating the previous five-day processing time, thereby making the process faster, easier, and more secure. This specific change does not impact business clients.
- EFILE Service Open Dates:
- T1 EFILE and ReFILE: These services opened on February 24, 2025, and will remain accessible until January 30, 2026. This extensive period allows for the electronic filing of initial personal income tax returns for tax years 2017 to 2024, as well as amended T1 returns for tax years 2021 to 2024.
- T3 EFILE: The T3 EFILE service operates within the same window, from February 24, 2025, to January 30, 2026.
- Capital Dispositions Reporting: EFILE remains available for returns that include capital dispositions for the 2024 tax year. The CRA previously offered relief from late-filing penalties and interest for these specific returns until June 2, 2025, for individuals and May 1, 2025, for trusts.
- Account Maintenance and Security: All EFILE account holders are strongly reminded to keep their account information current and to diligently monitor their transmission history. These practices are vital for ensuring the security and integrity of their tax information.
